1. Where is Advent located?
Advent is located at the corner of S. 23rd St. and S. Arlington Ridge Rd, up the hill from Pentagon City and Crystal City. Click to see a map.
2. I am an intern, in Washington for one year. How easy will it be for me to become part of the community during that year?
We extend a warm welcome to those who are in Washington temporarily. We encourage you to become part of our Christian community. Your contributions of time and talent will be highly valued.
3. What sort of programs are there for children?
Sunday School is at 9 am. There is always a children’s sermon. Children are an important part of our inter-generational community; they serve as acolytes and participate in a number of different ways.
4. If I want to walk the labyrinth, do I need to make an appointment?
No, it is not necessary to make an appointment. All are welcome to walk the labyrinth or simply to sit and enjoy the garden
5. Are there opportunities to volunteer at Advent?
Yes. Advent is involved in the Arlington Interfaith Council and supports AFAC (Arlington Food Assistance Center) and ASPAN (Arlington Street People’s Network). We pack sandwiches for the homeless once a month. Volunteers also help to care for the garden around the labyrinth. And there are many other opportunities to volunteer as well.
6. What educational opportunities are there for adults at Advent?
There are often guest speakers at the Sunday Forums, although Advent members also frequently lead Forums. Discussion topics range from end-of-life issues to environmental and immigration issues. And the discussion is lively.
Pastor Anna Anderson leads the Bible study at 7:00 each Wednesday evening. Drop-ins are welcome. She also leads “20 Minutes with God,” a short Bible study at 9 am on Sunday morning.
